Services

Treecycle ME Portable Sawmill and Wood Works offers two separate milling services, using a Lucas Portable Sawmill.  The mill can handle nearly any diameter log down to 10″ on the small end.  The mill can also be transported on the back of a pickup truck, and can be used in many remote locations.

Standard” Milling of Lumber – with a circular saw blade

Rate: $75/hr. with at least one helper* provided by the customer. ($95/hr.  if sawyer brings a helper).

Four hour minimum.

The lumber is limited in size to any variable of up to 8.5” x 8.5” and up to 20’ long.  i.e. 1×8, 2×6, 4×4 etc.  (Lumber 12′ or shorter is less labor intensive.)  Customer supplies cut list.

If the blade is damaged due to foreign objects in the log and needs to be re-tipped, the charge is $60/re-tipping.  If, by some odd chance, the blade is damaged to a point of being ruined, the charge is $200/blade.  (This would be an extreme case.)**

“Slabbing” – by replacing the circular saw blade with a slabbing attachment (effectively a very wide chainsaw), we can cut live edge slabs.

Rate: $125/hr. with at least two helpers* and/or machinary w/ forks, provided by the customer.  ($145-$165/hr.  if sawyer brings 1-2 helpers).

Four hour minimum.

Slabs can be milled up to 5’ wide and 9” thick (standard thickness is 2-3”).

If the chain is damaged due to foreign objects in the log and needs to be re-sharpened the charge $30/sharpening.  This only applies to having hit foreign objects in the logs, not normal dulling of the blade from the slabbing process.  If, by some odd chance, the chain is damaged to a point of being ruined, the charge is $150/chain.  (Again, a very rare occurrence.)**

Mileage Fee: $1.50/mile round trip, within a 35 mile radius (from sawyer’s Clifton, Maine location); $2.00/miles round trip, outside the 35 mile radius.

Other Services Available: lumber; planing slabs; milling clapboard siding; furniture building; assisting with the creation of a cut list; creating designs for and building outhouses, sheds, tiny houses, etc.

Additional Potential Fees: Saw jobs requiring multiple days, and that are more than 50 miles away, may be charged for overnight accommodations for the sawyer & helpers*

*Helpers assist with the staging of logs, off-loading of waste slabs and stacking of lumber. **Logs can be scanned with a metal detector but this is never a guarantee that foreign objects will not be hit. Detecting and removing the metal  adds time to the job.
